Pilgrims who fly in for the nine Navagraha temples generally base themselves in Kumbakonam rather than Thanjavur, because eight of the nine temples are within an hour of it. That makes this the arrival journey for a large share of the people we drive: roughly 90 km north-east from the airport, two to two and a half hours depending on the hour.
It is long enough that the vehicle matters. A group of five or six with luggage is uncomfortable in a sedan for that distance, and the eight-seater is usually the better call. The same flight tracking and free waiting apply as on the shorter Thanjavur run.
