Thanjavur to Chidambaram taxi
The long run up the delta to the Thillai Nataraja Temple, usually taken as a full day with Gangaikonda Cholapuram on the way.
At about 110 km this is the longest single drive we make out of Thanjavur, and doing it as a bare transfer wastes it. Gangaikonda Cholapuram — the second of the three Great Living Chola Temples, and far quieter than the one in Thanjavur — sits close to the route, and adding it costs perhaps an hour.
Chidambaram itself needs unhurried time. The Thillai Nataraja Temple is large, the Rahasyam shrine is the point of the visit for many people, and the rites are conducted by the hereditary Dikshitar community on their own schedule rather than a published one. Plan the day around the temple rather than around the drive.
