The Brihadeeswarar temple is the reason most people come, and it rewards a guide more than almost any monument in south India — the interesting part is not the scale but the inscriptions, which record who gave what, which dancer was paid how much, and how a temple functioned as an economy. Without someone to read them it is a very large building. From there the day moves through the Maratha palace, a genuinely strange piece of architecture where Nayak and Maratha work sit on top of each other; the Saraswathi Mahal Library, one of the oldest working libraries in Asia; and the art gallery's Chola bronzes, which are the finest collection of their kind anywhere. Our guides are registered with the state tourism department — examined on the history they are explaining, and accountable for what they tell you. Anyone can stand at a temple gate and offer to show you round.

Tamil and English are always available. Hindi and French can be arranged, but the guides who speak them are limited in number, so tell us your preference when you book rather than on the day.

Yes. The Big Temple complex alone is a substantial walk on stone, and shoes come off inside. The vehicle drops and collects at each site, but the sites themselves are covered on foot.

Inside 48 hours there is no refund, because the vehicle and driver are already committed to your booking. Approved refunds reach the original payment method within 7–10 business days.
Full Day (approx. 9–10 hours). That is the time we plan for; temples do not run to a timetable, and a driver who hurries you through a darshan is not doing his job.
