Tiruchirappalli (Trichy)
Srirangam, the Rockfort and Thiruvanaikaval — and the airport most visitors to the delta fly into.
Tiruchirappalli is the arrival point for most people visiting this part of Tamil Nadu, and it would be worth a day even if it were not. Srirangam, on an island in the Kaveri, is among the largest functioning Hindu temple complexes anywhere, and is counted first among the 108 Divya Desams of Vaishnavism. Thiruvanaikaval nearby is another of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams — this one the water element, with a spring in the sanctum that never runs dry.
In the middle of the city the Rockfort rises straight out of the street, with the Ucchi Pillayar temple at the top of a stairway cut into the rock. Tiruchirappalli International Airport (TRZ) is on the southern edge of the city, about 60 km from Thanjavur, and our airport transfers run from there with flight tracking.
